Pregnancy Diagnosis and Fertility Management

In many farmed species having accurate and early pregnancy diagnosis can aid in farm planning and promote efficient allocation of resources. In addition to diagnosing pregnancy our vets are able to identify and advise on a number of reproductive disorders which may be limiting your farms production. Issue such as infertility, uterine infections, abortions, stillbirths, malformations of offspring can all be important indicators of infectious and management problems within a farm and so investigation of these cases promptly can provide improvements for years to come.

Bull and Ram fertility testing

Often the bull or ram used on a farm is often overlooked when discussing fertility of a herd however they play an important part in the process and so best practice is to evaluate their fertility and ability to perform prior to introducing them. Fertility examinations are recommended at least two months prior to planned breeding season.

These examinations include thorough examination and are aimed at evaluating

  • libido (sex drive) and overall physical fitness
  • examination of the penis and other reproductive organs
  • ability to produce sufficient quantity of high quality sperm with the ability to fertilise an egg via visualisation under the microscope
