Lameness Examinations

equine

Sometimes it can be hard to tell if your horse is lame or “not quite right”. All our vets are extremely experienced in lameness diagnosis, potentially removing the need for expensive or unnecessary diagnostic tests. However, should it prove necessary to make an accurate diagnosis, our vets are equipped with the latest digital x-ray equipment. We are able to perform a full lameness investigation, including ultrasound tendon scans, at your yard or stables.

A typical lameness exam may include trotting-up in a straight line, lunge work or ridden work, and may be followed up with nerve blocks. By placing local anaesthetic around the nerves at various points in the leg, our vets can narrow down where the problem is, and thus can be more guided when imaging the leg.

Once a reason for lameness can be determined, our vets will work with you to create a bespoke treatment plan that works for both you and your horse.

However, if your horse has extremely complex lameness issues we can arrange for a referral or second opinion with some of the country's leading top lameness specialists.
